Dirk Braeckman embraces artfully the spirit of the Spring Summer 2017 A.F.Vandevorst collection.

Every year, Selfridges’ Christmas window displays on London’s Oxford Street become the most alluring and magical holiday destination.
This year’s festive theme Journey to the Stars is inspired by the stars, constellation and astrology. Twelve highly stylized
window-displays are transformed by designers to celebrate the signs of the zodiac. A.F.Vandevorst - invited to imagine Capricorn
- installed a sparkling woman in silver who is mysteriously balancing and dancing around planet Saturn.
The result of Ne Vacuum will be on display from November 21st until November 22nd.
with British milliner Stephen Jones. Together they created a series of hats instilled with sculptural
softness and inspired by the wings of the Andean Condors of the Peruvian Colca Canyon.
A riot of models on roaring motorcycles drove into the courtyard of the Faculté de Médecine Paris Descartes
to show the A.F. Vandevorst Spring Summer 2016 collection. This collection tells the story of an adventurous
woman's motorcycle road trip, travelling from the East to the West. Her silhouettes invoke the exotic tropes
from far-flung cultures and are instilled with rock spirit. Precious embellished textiles, oriental jacquards, elements
of motorcross uniforms and signature military men's wear are blended in the urban, elegant and poetic looks for SS16.
An Vandevorst and Filip Arickx announce the A.F.VANDEVORST men’s shoe collection for Autumn Winter 2015-16,
with a pragmatic and refined aesthetic that evolves their signature into the menswear sphere.
Waxed cowhide and fine calfskin leathers in a polished or faded croc-effect form the base of this fundamental collection,
which features laced and zip military boots, Cuban and block heel styles, and trainers all made in Italy.
The sober colour palette of black, grey and sienna brown tones is fused with a streamlined, snub toe, allowing the subtle accent
of details like heavy lacing and concealed zipper tabs. Welt-sole military styles pay homage to Filip’s ubiquitous combat boots,
a relic of his time as one of the last generation of Belgian men to participate in the national military service.
Others again recognise the androgynous component to the A.F.VANDEVORST aesthetic, as laced boots feature a 9cm block heel
for an elevated, powerful posture. Rubber-sole trainers are strapped with velcro tabs or an equestrian shin guard,
applying classical elements to a sportive design.
The A.F. Vandevorst A/W15 collection is inspired by travels of the mind, body and spirit and evokes the stark landscape of the Andes Mountains.
We hope the sculptural softness of the silhouettes will in turn inspire you.

“The Belgians, An Unexpected Fashion Story” is the new major fashion exhibition at Bozar Brussels. The show tells the story of the emergence and success of Belgian fashion and highlights the works of several influential designers. For this festive occasion, A. F. Vandevorst was invited to create a small space that would capture their creative universe. The result: a clean hospital bed, a white dress from their first collection in 1998 and – yes – the signature Red Cross. Besides this intriguing installation, some key pieces from the archives and a stunning silhouette from the A/W collection 2016 are on display. You can visit The Belgians until 13 September 2015. www.bozar.be
